Who was Toni Stone?

Toni Stone, originally known as Marcenia Lyle Stone was one of those three women who played professional baseball on a regular basis in a major men’s baseball league. She was born on 17 July 1921 in Bluefield, West Virginia. In the year 1931, she and her family shifted to Minnesota where she gained her interest in baseball. Stone was raised up playing different sports games including golf, hockey, football, basketball, and tennis, however, Baseball became her career. At the age of 16, she joined the Twin Cities Colored Giants club which was previously known as an all-male team.

Although, she started her baseball career professionally in the West Coast Negro Baseball League with San Francisco Sea Lions. In 1949, she started playing for the New Orleans Creoles and the New Orleans Black Pelicans. In 1953, she played for the Indiana Clowns in the Negro American League where he filled a vacancy that was left by Hank Arron. Personalizing her talent, she was the best pitcher in the league because she hit a single off Satchel Paige.

How did Toni Stone die?

She played for the Indianapolis Clowns for a very short time and later was traded to the Kansas City Monarchs in the year 1954. As per our information, Stone was able to run 100 yards in 11 seconds. In 1949, when she joined the baseball league for the first, she made the decision for herself to change her name. He was originally known as Marcenia Lyle Stone but she changed her name to Toni Stone. She made this decision after realizing that her birth name was so cute. After the 1954 season, she moved to California where she worked as a nurse and look after her sick husband. She died on 02 November 1996 of a heart attack at a nursing home in Alameda, California. She was 75 years old after her death.
