Who was Tim Mains?
Tim Mains, who most recently was superintendent of the Pine Bush Central School District, has passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, 30th December 2021. At the time of his demise, he was 73 years old. As per Mid Hudson News, Mains lived in the Town of Wallkill and the police chief there informed the newspaper that they got a call for a medical emergency, and in the spite of the efforts of EMS and police personnel, Mains passed away. The Pine Bush district released a statement saying that Mains watched the district through some very challenging times.

It also stated that throughout his tenure, “Tim proved himself to be a passionate and dedicated supporter of the Pine Bush school community, its families and students, as well as staff and faculty,”
Mains had been superintendent of the Pine Bush district since the year 2017. Before that, he was superintendent of the Jamestown School District from the year 2013-2017. Mains was a longtime Rochester City Council member, for around 20 years, beginning in the year 1986. He also had made an unsuccessful run for Rochester mayor.
In the year 1985, Mains was the first openly gay man in New York State to be elected to public office.

Mayor-Elect, Malik Evans released a statement on the passing of Tim Mains in which he said, “I was saddened to hear of the unexpected passing of Tim Mains, a former Rochester City Council Member, School Principal, and School Superintendent in Pine Bush. I had the honor of working with Tim in many capacities over the years. I first got to know Tim at the time of serving as a Legislative Aide for Rochester City Council. I was impressed with his deep knowledge of city finances and his passion and love for the city… My deep thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at the time of this tough time. May his soul rest in peace”.
Bob Duffy, the CEO of Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce made a tweet in which he wrote, “Tim Mains served Rochester with integrity/honor for years as a City Council member and also as an @RCSDNYS principal-prior to leaving to become the superintendent of the Jamestown schools. A brilliant man with so many strengths. RIP Tim.
