Who was Johannes Vermeer?

Johannes Vermeer was a famous Dutch Baroque Period painter who was born in October 1632 in Delft, Holland, Dutch Republic. He was expected to be 42 or 43 years at the time of his death. He gained specialization in domestic interior scenes of middle-class life. In his lifetime, he was known as a moderately successful provincial genre painter.  He gained popularity with his painting “Girl with a Pearl Earring”. He earned fame for his genre using extremely expensive pigments.

Johannes Vermeer’s cause of death?

There are some of his iconic works include Woman Holding a Balance, The Milkmaid, The Art of Painting, View of Delft, among others. As per the sources, the cause of his death is said to be depression and madness. He was not so rich and at the time of his death, he left his wife and children in debt. His wife announced his death stating that he died after suffering from a short-term illness. Some sources claimed that he was buried in the Protestant Old Church on December 15, 1675.

He was married to Catharina Bolnes who was a catholic. They got married in a nearby village of Schipluiden. According to some sources, he also converted himself to Catholics after getting married to his wife. His wife belonged to a rich family. She gave birth to 15 children with the artist and four of them were buried without being baptized. The names of his 10 children are Maertge, Cornelia, Aleydis, Gertruyd, Catharina, Ignatius, Beatrix, Elisabeth, Johannes, and Franciscus.

On 12 November, Google Doodle paid tribute to him, they tweeted, “Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer is considered among the greatest Dutch painters of all time.” Currently, his painting has been selling in millions.
