Rittenhouse (18-years-old) of Antioch, Illinois, was exonerated of all 5 charges stemming from his activities on 25th August 2016 in the middle of the protests in Kenosha, Wisconsin after the shooting of a Black man, Jacob Blake, by a white cops officer. Prosecutors had charged Rittenhouse with criminal charges including intentional and reckless manslaughter for shooting Anthony Huber, Gaige Grosskreutz, and Joseph Rosenbaum at the time of a series of days of protests in Kenosha after the shooting of Jacob Blake, a Black man, 7 times whereas responding to a domestic disturbance, leaving Blake partially paralyzed.
If sentenced to 1st-degree murder, killer Rittenhouse faces the death penalty. His attornies claim he shot in self-defense after being chased and attacked by a group of demonstrators after shooting Rosenbaum, who they claim had previously chased and menaced to assassination Rittenhouse.

Kariann Swart, an Illinois native, met Rosenbaum and started a romantic engagement with him in the month of August of 2019. “He is a very energetic person,” she said about Rosenbaum. Rosenbaum was originally from Waco, Texas, and had recently relocated to Kenosha around the time they met to be closer to his daughter who lives there, Swart further added. When she and Rosenbaum met, they did not have a home, and they shared a motel room in the Kenosha region at the time of his demise.
On 25th August 2020, Rosenbaum was released from a Milwaukee hospital and came back to the motel and Swart that afternoon. He carried a plastic bag from the hospital that Swart claims had socks, toiletries, medical paperwork, and an empty plastic water bottle which he threw at Rittenhouse prior to being shot.
