As per the reports, a rare-supercell tornado over water known as a waterspout was seen in a small village of Cofimvaba on Wednesday. The SA Weather Service reassured the frightened villagers that this is not a sign of the end of the world. The weather authorities said that waterspouts are weaker, slow-moving versions of tornadoes. The villagers of a small village in Cofimvaba in the Eastern Cape have left gobsmacked following being treated to a rare sighting of a waterspout weather phenomenon.

There are some videos that have been shared on the internet. A video showing a breath-taking whirlpool of the mist of air and water over the Nakorha dam in Nakku village of Kovinvaba went viral on social media. In another video, villagers can be heard shouting aloud, stating that it was magic or a signal of the end of the world. A villager Sibusiso Zonke assumed and shared his thought on Face book stating, “This could be the resurrection of the dead or signs of the return of Jesus. It is clear it will all begin here in Nququ.”

He told the news outlet that the villagers were stunned by the unusual event which was reportedly not seen in Nququ village before now. However, the SA Weather Service dissolved all the theories of the villagers stating that waterspouts were just like any other weather event. She said that people should ignore waterspouts just like any other weather phenomena, they still have the power of causing damage. They were not associated with supercells because it is the case with tornadoes. Stay tuned with us for more updates.
