Aaditya Thackeray, the Tourism Minister had recently said that the “Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government was previously working to “make or create excitement” about the state projected as a tourist destination. He said that the beach shack policy in Sindhudurg was anticipating the environment clearance. The state government can only be a facilitator, he stated while focusing and stressing on more private involvement in the tourism sector. In the spite of the COVID-19 lethal pandemic, the interest and involvement of the private sector were encouraging.

He told that the restrictions on travelling will last till the ongoing pandemic exists. “But the main focus is on that what we can do now. As per the norms of the central government, Tourists who are fully vaccinated are heartily welcome to the state. We are looking forward to international, domestic, intra-state and inter-state tourists,” he stated. The minister stated that his department is mainly focused on how to boost the tourism sector’s contribution to the GDP of the state and also increased localised employment.

He stated that “Our attempt is to make sure international travellers move around Mumbai and the rest of the state for 5 to 6 days after they land for the first time here in India.” Thackeray bemoans that in spite of having the best landscapes and everything needed to be called a tourist destination, the state never cast itself so prior to the country and the world.
Present on the occasion were Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia in New Delhi, Minister of State for Social Justice Ramdas Athawale, MSME Minister Narayan Rane, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and other prominent politicians. The inauguration programme was preceded by the maiden Mumbai-Chipi Airlines commercial flight making a smooth landing amid loud music and her, bringing a host of VVIPs for the occasion.
