The Centre has scale-up efforts to vacate Indian inhabitants stranded in Ukraine in the middle of heightened tensions. On Thursday, the Civil Aviation Ministry informed more than 7,400 Indians are expected to be brought back to India from the neighboring countries on special flights in the next 2 days. The government has also deployed “special envoys” to 4 neighboring countries bordering Ukraine to coordinate and oversee the removal process of Indian nationals.
Hardeep Singh Puri the Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas is overseeing removal efforts in Hungary, Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju in Slovakia, Highways and Civil Aviation Gen VK Singh in Poland, Minister of State for Road Transport & Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia in Romania.

Arindam Bagchi the Ministry of External Affairs mouthpiece said on Thursday that, at the time of a press briefing also informed that a large number of students had left Kharkiv after an advisory was released. The total number of Indians waiting to cross the western borders of Ukraine has reduced. The mouthpiece also mentioned that he was in touch with Ukraine and Russian authorities for the removal of Indian nationals.
The government had begun “Operation Ganga” on the 26th of February 2022 to evacuate stranded Indians from Ukraine. The first flight carrying Indians landed in Mumbai on the 26th of February 2022 which was got by Piyush Goyal, Consumer Affairs, Minister for Commerce and Industry, Food, Public Distribution, and Textile.
