It is not clear yet how Shai passed away, though a Sunday World report on Saturday suggested that he committed suicide in his garage at his residence in Dobsonville, Soweto. The demise of Shai comes a week after he came under the spotlight for a viral video that surfaced in which the star hurled insults at the mother of rapper Cassper Nyovest.
In the video, Shai was in a fighting mood. He said in the video “I want to bleksem you prior to I die. I want to make sure that I have beaten you up so that my tombstone, is penned that I am the man who beat Coster or Caster or whatever your sh*t name is…Give me that respect. Come, you son of a bi**h.” In a statement released by Shai on Wednesday, he publicly apologized to Nyovest and his mother for the distasteful video.

He said, “From the bottom of my heart, I would like to apologize. Apologize, for having (used) such strong language towards your mother. Even though the challenge would have been an ideal thing it has now been soured by what I stated. I regret and apologize for every bit of the last sentence I used. I am sorry. The career of veteran actor spanned more than 3 decades. He acted in productions including Bophelo ke Semphego, 7de Laan, Soul City, and Hearts and Minds.
