In November 2021, a robbery took place at the Malamulele police station in Limpopo. After getting the information about the robbery, the police have immediately started the investigation. On Thursday, Provincial police commissioner Lt-Gen Thembi Hadebe and her team gave some updates on the progress of the investigation and the other crimes that happened in the Vhembe district. She said that they have arrested 10 of them and they are still searching for others who were their associates. There are more people to get arrested.
All the suspects were aged between 30 to 48. They would be appeared at magistrate’s courts in the province and in Mpumalanga. She stated, “They face charges of unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, explosives, conspiracy to commit crimes, attempted murder, murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, carjackings, and the attack on the Malamulele police station.” A gang of heavily armed men looted R5 rifles, 9 mm pistols, shotguns, and ammunition from the police station on 21 November. Not only the police station, they also robbed nearby garages.
She also revealed that they have also stolen R16,000 in petty cash, all bail money, property, and money belonged to other prisoners that were kept at the community service center. On 19 January 2022, the investigators arrested 10 men in relation to robbery. A renowned local businessman is also among 10 suspects. He is not named yet until he appeared in court. He hails from one of the remote villages in Giyani. He is believed to be a mastermind who prepared a group of men and provided them weapons to attack several spots.
