Vicky Phelan Returns From US After Scan Shows Diagnosis Tumours: The Limerick native was diagnosed with cancer with terminal cancer which happened because of a smear test error in the year 2011, she has been in Maryland since the start of this year and she is participating in an immunotherapy drug trial. This happened last week and she has to go under chemotherapy due to the discovery of tumors in her bowel and her neck, she further stated, unfortunately, following a PT scan which was ordered by the radiation oncologist at Georgetown University hospital, she further stated she has some new tumors.
She further stated she has two new tumors, one is in her neck and the other one is in her bowel which is worrying, this means that she is no longer eligible for proton beam therapy since her tumors are far too extensive, she has too much disease in her body for them to zap.
She is a mother of two and it is with a heavy heart that she has made the decision to return to Ireland, she is taking time to reconnect with her children and to absorb the news before her chemotherapy treatment starts. She further stated, the good news is, she is still going to have the treatment and it is going to keep her alive at least till Christmas.
She ended the post by saying, she is going to be taking a break from social media for the next few weeks and she thanked everyone for their support and kindness, the “false negative” was uncovered during a retrospective audit and she was relayed to Ms. Phelan’s doctor in the year 2016, However, she was not informed about this for another 15 months.
In the days following her settlement, it emerged that there are more than 200 women who have been diagnosed with cancer and they have missed out on earlier medical intervention.
