Colonel Athlenda Mathe stated that “The national crime intelligence anti-kidnapping task team has made yet another breakthrough in less than 5 days after a Vereeniging businessman, Zaher Asmal, was abducted at his business premises on Friday morning. The team dived in at 3 identified addresses, one in Lenasia South where the sufferer was discovered unharmed. At this address, cops apprehended the owner of the property, a 70-year-old Mozambican national.”

Mathe stated authorities pounced on 2 other properties and apprehended two more people in link with the abducting of Asmal. “In Ennerdale, they discovered a dark grey Toyota Hilux and fake registration number plates which were utilized in the commission of the crime. One suspect, a Malawian national, was detained. When cops reached the 3rd address in Roodepoort, cops were met with gunfire. One suspect, a South African national, was apprehended. One unlicensed weapon was also captured.”
Mathe stated all 3 suspects are facing charges connecting to abducting and robbery with aggravated circumstances.
