“Our investigating officer has watched into this and spoken with the mother of Tyre Sampson. His mother informed them she does know who Shay Johnson is,” a mouthpiece for the Orange County Sheriff’s Office stated in an email late Thursday. The news outlet tried to reach Johnson after questions about whether she was legitimately linked to the family were raised. Her phone number comes up to be disconnected late Thursday. The office of lawyer Ben Crump also informed the news outlet that the family does not know anyone whose name is “Shay Johnson”.

“I would like this ride to be taken down,” Johnson informed the news outlet on the 27th of March 2022 date beginning a petition and gathering signatures demanding that the Orlando FreeFall ride be shut down. Days later, Johnson was at a balloon release in honor of Sampson where she talked with journalists about missing Sampson. She stated that “Me calling him “fat baby” and him calling me “mini-me” as I was always shorter than him and I think that is what I will miss the most. I feel good to watch all these people come. I know my cousin is happy to watch all these people come,” she stated of the community that viewed up to the memorial.

The office of the Orange County Sheriff stated that as of now, there is no proof of a crime. Sampson was visiting Florida with another family from St. Louis, Missouri. He went with pals to ICON Park, which is home to several attractions and rides, and went on the Orlando FreeFall, a drop tower-style ride that opened in the month of December. The ride is billed as the “World’s tallest drop tower” and lifts riders around 400 feet into the air prior to shortly tilting them forward and dropping them at a speed up to 75 mph.
