We only have to wait a few months before the new IPL season gets underway.
The 2021 campaign produced plenty of fireworks, and the Chennai Super Kings remain the team to beat after they captured their fourth title.
However, you can expect to see plenty of fresh new faces when the super auction is held in February 2022. The full player list for the auction is expected to be finalized by mid-January, and it will be fascinating to see who is picked.
Of course, there are plenty of Aussie players who have staked a strong claim to be included for selection. One of the standout names is David Warner. Although he was stripped of the captaincy by the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the second half of the 2021 season, his IPL record is remarkable – 5,449 runs at 41.59, including 50 fifties and 4 tons.
Another player that deserves a chance is Steve Smith. After being released by the Rajasthan Royals ahead of last year’s auction, Australia’s star batter only played eight out of 16 matches for the Delhi Capitals, but he could only muster 152 runs at an average of just over 25.
And how could we forget Pat Cummins? While the batters probably warrant the most attention in the IPL, the bowlers deserve a special mention too. During the 2020 IPL auction, Cummins became the most expensive overseas player when he joined the Kolkata Riders for a whopping INR 15.5 crores. Although he missed the second half of the 2021 campaign to be at the home for the birth of his first child, Cummins is a dangerman, and he likes to wicket the hard.
Inevitably, there will be plenty of interest in the IPL. The Chennai Super Kings will be the hunted, and the 2022 season is likely to spark plenty of interest, at least from a betting perspective. The IPL has gained traction from all over the world. For example, the best betting sites in Australia, such as PamerBet and bet365 will be stocked with match odds, as well as outrights such as who will be crowned champions. As of yet, there are no prices listed for the auction, but we expect that will change over the next few weeks.
Australia is brimming with talent, and that has been evident from what we have seen so far from their leading lights in the Ashes series against England.
Of course, things could change in the next month or so, but you know what you are getting with the likes of Smith and Warner.
With the aforementioned duo, in particular Warner, you have a batsman who has an enormous amount of flair, and he’s never afraid to take the bowler on and launch him out of the ground for six.
Getting Smith or Warner in the auction isn’t too much of a gamble. It’s now just a case of waiting to see how the auction unfolds, but it will make for compelling viewing!
