Why was Texas Woman Arrested Walmart?
The incident has happened last week at the big box store in Crockett, as per The Messenger, a local news outlet. Rebecca Lanette Taylor was apprehended on Tuesday and charged with the sale or purchase of a child, as per NBC News. The 49-year-old woman reportedly approached a mother of two in the self-checkout queue of Walmart in Crockett, Texas on Thursday, 13th of January 2022. The records of police show Taylor of Crockett was detained on Tuesday, 18th January 2022. She was charged with the sale or purchase of a child, which is a 3rd-degree felony. She was booked into the Houston County Jail, where she was being held on a $50,000 bond.
An affidavit of probable cause was lodged by Lt. Ahleea Price with the Crockett Police Department explained how she received a phone call from the mother of the child “advising a white lady with blonde hair approached her in the Crockett Walmart, wanting to buy her son. The mother of the child (who has not been named) informed Price she was waiting to use the self-checkout. The mother had one baby in the car seat and another 1-year-old child in the shopping cart.
Authorities wrote, “Taylor started commenting on the blonde hair and blue eyes of he son. She asked how much she need to pay in order to purchase this child. She asked how much she need to pay in order to purchase this child. The mother of the child attempted to laugh this comment off, thinking Taylor must be joking. Taylor told her that she had around $250,000 hard cash in the car and she would pay that much amount for him. The mother told her no amount of money would do.”
Taylor continued to allude to the topic and the mother told her to stay away from her son. The suspect said she had been looking forward in order to purchasing a baby for some time, as per the law enforcement. The mother later went to say to Lt. Price that Taylor was with another lady who comes up to be Hispanic. The 2nd lady asked the name of the child, but the mother who was already annoyed did not share this information with them.
