The 20th anniversary of the 9/11 World Trade Centre attack is still fresh in the mind of the world and On Saturday, 11th September 2021, Frank Siller finished his 537 miles journey which he started on foot from Washington DC and ends in New York City, to honour the memory of his late brother Stephen Siller who lost his life in the incident of 9/11 attacks. 20 years ago, thirty-year-old firefighter Stephen Siller demised while trying to save the lives of many others. Stephen was too dedicated towards his work as even on his day off he decided to help the people.
He rushed to the Twin Tower as soon as he gets to know the attack news. He had told his brother Frank a day prior to that “I will see you tomorrow brother” but this promise would forever remain unfulfilled or it can never be completed. Celebrating the legacy of his later brother, Tunnel To Towers Foundation CEO Frank Siller begun his journey at the Pentagon where the hijacked American Airlines carrier collapsed around 09:37 AM on 11th September 2001.
From Pentagon, Frank Siller started walking to Shanksville, Pennsylvania where the United Flight 93 hit the 44 commuters onboard succeeded in overthrowing the hijackers. It was also believed that the aeroplane was headed towards the Pentagon or White House. The atrocious terror attack which was conducted by Al-Qaeda claimed as many as 2,997 lives and extended to haunt the United States of America every day since.
Stephen SillerÂ
The youngest among 7 children of George and Mae Siller, Stephen Siller was basically raised by his older siblings after they lose their both parents at the small age of 10 years. He has grown up to be a firefighter, dedicated to saving lives and was allocated to Brooklyn’s Squad 1. On the decisive day of 9/11, Stephen had completed his shift and was moved to play his favourite game of golf along with his brothers in New Jersey on his leave.
Suddenly, he get to know about the tragic plane collide the North Tower of the World Trade Center and decided that he needed to go there in order to save the lives of people. He then called his wife Sally and told her to convey his message to his brothers that he would meet them later. In the meantime, he seized his firefighting gear and moved his truck to Manhattan through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel. Though the tunnel had been shut by the time for security.
In 6 weeks, he walked through 6 states at the end of following the footsteps of his brother to Ground Zero.
