Russia-Ukraine Prisoner Swap: 175 Soldiers Reunited with Families Ahead of Ceasefire Talks

A major agreement before the ceasefire in Russia-Ukraine has brought smiles to the faces of many families. Russia and Ukraine have released 175 prisoners each under a major prisoner exchange agreement.

A major agreement was reached before the ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. This has brought happiness back to many families in both countries. Let us tell you that on Wednesday, both countries made a big agreement regarding the exchange of prisoners. Under this, Russia and Ukraine exchanged 175-175 prisoners. This is the first time since the war between the two countries started three years ago that these countries have exchanged such a large number of prisoners.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said, “We are bringing back soldiers, sergeants, and officers who fought for our freedom while serving in the Armed Forces, Navy, National Guard, Territorial Defense Forces, etc.” The Ukrainian leader said on Tuesday that releasing all prisoners of war and captured civilians would be an important step towards peace and would help restore trust between the two countries. He had repeatedly demanded the exchange of all prisoners. Ukraine has given information about the exchange of prisoners at a time when talks are going on about a temporary ceasefire.

Shortly after the swap took place near the northern border between the two warring countries, several families arrived at a hospital in Ukraine’s Chernihiv region, where the prisoners were to be brought. A few minutes later, several buses pulled up to the hospital, and soldiers who appeared weak and tired stepped out of the vehicles. As they stepped out of the vehicles, their faces lit up seeing their loved ones inside the complex. Earlier on Wednesday, Russia’s Defense Ministry said it had released 22 additional seriously injured Ukrainian prisoners “as a goodwill gesture.” Zelensky said they were returned through a separate negotiation process.

America also has a big role in the exchange of prisoners between Russia and Ukraine. It is being said that Russian President Vladimir Putin had promised to release 23 prisoners when he talked to US President Donald Trump about a temporary ceasefire. There was no immediate comment on the reason for the change in the number. Petro Yatsenko, head of the press office of Ukraine’s coordination headquarters for the treatment of prisoners of war, said that extensive preparation is required for the exchange of prisoners. He said, “These exchanges are not sudden events. They require careful planning
