As per the sources, the race for the Dally M Medal is officially down to five along with Eagles fullback Tom Trbojevic who reached the second spot behind Nathan Cleary after the 19 rounds of the Telstra Premiership. Many big sports stars have been short-listed for this reputable award that is going to be announced next week. The names of the stars are James Tedesco, the captain of Rooster, South Sydney’s Cody Walker, Sea Eagles halfback Dale Cherry-Evans, and Trbojevic who recently joined Cleary.
On Monday night, the names of the top five were unveiled which was a part of a new look of the award ceremony for this year as the award ceremony is divided into two evenings. So now, the winner of the Dally M Medal will be announced at Howard Smith Wharves in Brisbane on 27 September 2021. The timings are yet to be revealed. Another seven rounds of votes were announced on the first night of the awards ceremony sitting one point behind Cleary with 8 points between the 13-19 rounds. After 12 rounds with 21 points, Cleary supervised the count on Dally M Medal. But it seems that his top position was supposed to come under the given pressure as he missed his five games because of his shoulder injury.
However, Cleary began the year in dominant fashion by receiving 21 votes in 11 matches with the Panthers’ halfback because the side secured 12 wins frequently. In Round 15, he secured his three votes against the Roosters in the performance for the man of the match but did not appear again till the 22nd round. On the other hand, Trbojevic missed his five opening rounds of the season due to his hamstring injury. If he wins the award, he will become the first Sea Eagle player after Matt Oxford in 2008.
