It has been said that it was the worst and most dangerous storm in almost 30 years, with an extreme wind peak of 122mpn being captured at The Needles on the Isle of Wight. The Met office considered the storm to be a new record for England, breaking the 118mph gust captured at Gwennap Head in December 1979 in Cornwall. At the time of writing, at least four people were reported died after flying debris posing an extreme threat to life, and many others were left injured.

Buildings were also destroyed, roofs were blown off, the St Thomas Church spire collapsed in Wales and a hole burst in the roof of the O2 Stadium in London. Several buildings were also damaged by the signs was a hangar at RAF Brize Norton. At RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire, an army hangar suffered from serious damage in the storm. There is shocking footage on the internet from George Allison of the Defence Journal that shows major chunks of the roof of the hangar which fled away in the 70mps winds.

RAF is the largest station of the Royal Air Force located 75 miles northwest of London in Carterton and was built several years ago in 1935. Although, the distinctive hanger was new which houses the fleet of the UK of Atlas transport planes, and its costs £70 million to build. RAF Brize Norton released a statement revealing that the clean-up operation will be started once it is safe. They stated, “We are aware that due to high winds there has been damage to one of our aircraft hangars,” ahead of stating that at present, they are liaising with the local authorities.
