It has been said that it was the worst and most dangerous storm in almost 30 years, with an extreme wind peak of 122mpn being captured at The Needles on the Isle of Wight. The Met office considered the storm to be a new record for England, breaking the 118mph gust captured at Gwennap Head in December 1979 in Cornwall.
