Masebeni’s girlfriend, Athembile Mpani, 20, and Gershom Matomane, 29, who was added to the charge sheet on Monday, are the remaining suspects in the case, according to Phindi Mjonondwane, a spokesman for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in Gauteng. They’re accused of robbing ABSA Bank of R103 million between September and December 2021, and they’re facing fraud and money laundering charges.

According to Mjonondwane, an amount of R59 million was allegedly deposited into Matomane’s bank account. Matomane is free on R30 000 bail, which was granted by the Bellville Magistrates’ Court in the Western Cape, for the case that is being heard by the Palm Ridge Specialised Commercial Crime Court.

Then the case was transferred to the Palm Ridge Magistrate Court in Gauteng as the crime allegedly happened in Sandton an area within the court’s jurisdiction. Mjonondwane said the State has so far managed to recover R66m and is in the process of seizing three vehicles that were allegedly purchased using the fraudulent money. But the case was postponed due to some issues and the date will extend to May 12. The investigation still continues. NPA said more arrests are coming this week. We have arrested a big level of criminals which they didn’t catch easily.

As we mentioned earlier, Cops suspect two men. One is Athembile and another one is Gershom Matomane. They both are in their 20s. Cops have recorded their crimes in the charge sheet. They have thought that the robbery which takes place in the ABSA Bank of R103 was none but it’s both. Cops have charged them in the case of fraud and money laundering charges. All evidence is pointing towards them.

There is no doubt that the police suspect was wrong. But they are waiting for the statement which is eager to hear from their side. If those two guys didn’t admit it then the cops will not do anything. It was true that both were doing small crimes on a daily basis but many didn’t expect that they do on a big scale.
