Qalakabusha Correctional Centre: There has been a riad recently in which over thirty cellphones, appliances and Dagga have been confiscated during a raid which happened on Tuesday morning at Qalakabusha Correctional Centre in Empangeni in KwaZulu-Natal, it has been confirmed by the correctional services that the raid has left them in shock as to what they have found during the course of it. It has been further stated by the department, the riad started off at 3:00 am, they found 37 cellphones, pots, traditional medicines, one-plate stoves, and cell phone chargers, the spokesperson for the department who goes by the name of Singabakho Nxumalo has told that they have also uncovered dagga with a street value of R12 000.
He further stated, the team of delegates which includes the National correctional services commissioner Makgothi Thobakgale who raided the facility after serious concerns about security, stated, they woke them up at 3:00 am and they were pleased and shocked at the same time after what they discovered.
This shows that there are serious serious security breaches within the facility itself, this is evident because of all the stuff which has been found. Also, not so long ago, four inmates escaped and there are still at large which has been stated by Nxumalo. He added the department was conducting further inspections which are taking at the facility.
This is absurd to find so many belongings in the facility, it seems like there are going to be further investigations in the case and there are definitely some officers who are involved in this, it is surely allowed by some of the authorized personnel, there is no other way to have so many gadgets and whatnot in the facility.
This is pretty serious, the prisoners are probably continuing their businesses inside the facility with the help of these cellphones and now that the authorities have gotten hold of it, they will definitely try to track down the numbers if there are any on the cellphones, this is going to provide them with further leads.
