Oppo will soon showcase its new 10x optical zoom technology meant for the smartphones during an event in China on January 16. The company also sent out invites for the same recently, which have the tagline “Ten to see,” that indicated the debut of its 10x optical zoom technology, and it was last seen in a patent application only. It is not clear whether the company will introduce a product that will feature the 10x optical zoom support or it would just talk about that particular technology. The exact specifications are a mystery at this point in time. But rumours suggest that it will be on the lines of the company’s 5x optical zoom technology.
It has been named as 10x hybrid optical zoom, and this new technology from Oppo will be showcased at the company’s Future Technology Communication Conference on January 16. This was reported by the website MyDrivers but didn’t reveal further details regarding the same.
Oppo’s 5X Dual Camera Zoom technology was showcased at the Mobile World Congress in 2017, and this included two sensors, one of them being the traditional one and the other one which was pivoted 90 degrees and looked to the side of the phone. The company used a series of lenses to focus light on these sensors. The traditional sensor got the light similar to any other camera setup, but the side-facing sensor received redirected light from a prism. In essence, the company used the width of the phone to house the optical zoom. A traditional setup would have been easier but that would make the phone significantly thicker.
The 5x optical zoom technology didn’t reach a commercial smartphone and it will be interesting to see if the company manages to bring the 10x optical zoom tech to the market in an actual phone. If rumors are to be believed, the company’s upcoming F19 Pro and F19 smartphones might feature this technology.
