According to the reports, a missing fisherman has been found by a search and rescue crew. The missing man was fell down a life raft during a transfer onto a Canadian Coast Guard vessel. The Joint Rescue Coordination Center in Halifax issued a statement on Twitter revealing that the crew aboard a Cormorant helicopter found the fisherman and has taken them to medical authorities in Sydney, NS.
JRCC stated, “All SAR assets have been stood down. The condition of the fisher is not being disclosed at this time.” JRCC explained the search that happened 90 nautical miles southeast of Canso, NS, earlier in the day. It listed many aircraft and two Coast Guard ships have joined the search Sunday morning on the eastern shore of the province. The operation started just after midnight on Saturday when a request was received by the JRCC for a tow from the fishing vessel Muctown Girl which had faced several mechanical issues.
The JRCC said that the FV was taken under tow and began towards Mulgrave, NS. That day, around 05:43 pm, there was a failure in the tow arrangement and the fishing vessel went adrift overnight with the CCGS Jean Goodwill in escort. On Sunday, the Mucktown Girl reported taking on water, and the crew left the vessel into a life raft. JRCC stated, “(Four) fishers were recovered by CCGS Jean Goodwill, unfortunately, (one) fisher fell out of the life raft during this transfer and is now missing.” There are more details that are yet to be revealed by the authorities.
