As per the reports, Lafayette City Court Judge Mitchell Odinet told News 10 that this week, she and her family faced an armed burglary at their residence in the upscale area of Bendel Gardens. Odinet said that she immediately reported the police and the culprit was detained on the spot. Odinet stated, “My children and I were the victims of an armed burglary at our home. The police were called and the assailant was arrested. The incident shook me to my core and my mental state was fragile.”

After the incident, Lafayette Police have been treating this crime as a normal burglary, despite Odinet’s position as a city court judge. The suspect of the incident is a 59 years old Ronald Handy who has been detained by the police. He is charged with two counts of simple burglary, He is currently serving in the Lafayette Parish jail with a $10,000 bond. Paul Mouton, Lafayette Police Sgt. told News 10 that there were no weapons have been found with the suspect at the time of the arrest. Odinet said, “I was a wreck and am still unable to sleep.” After the incident, a video has been shared on social media platforms that were obtained from the Odinet’s home’s security footage. In the video, several people can be heard using racial slurs during the incident. Odinet responded to those allegations stating, “I was given a sedative at the time of the video.
