The legendary astronaut Michael Collins, who was the commanding module pilot for the Apollo11 mission which was for going onto the moon has left the world at the age of 90 as he was battling the fight with cancer.

As it is a known fact that Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong are the first humans to put their feet on the moon, Collins is the one who wasn’t someone who was about having the spotlight as he is the one who circled approximately 60 miles above the lunar surface, although Collins never stepped up on the moon even though the Apollo 11 was a big success because of the accomplishments of these 3 combined.
The news of his death was announced by his family members as they stated that they regret sharing the news of their beloved father and grandfather who has passed away after a tough battle with cancer, he family stated in a statement on Twitter, the family further stated that he has passed his final days in peace as they all were with him right by his side, the family further stated that he has always loved the challenge of life and has accepted whatever life has thrown in his way with humility and grace stating further that they miss him terribly and they also know how lucky he felt being the part of the Apollo 11 mission and many others in which his contribution was utmost.
He has always been known for his unpredictable and unassuming nature and in recent years he has been pretty active on social media and a person who has seen a lot and done a lot in his life, knowing his views on many of the things has been pretty productive for many.
NASA has also given a tribute to their beloved astronaut highlighting all of his career achievements and the important work that he has done which has been beneficial for many of the aspiring astronauts. NASA further stated that he is always going to be one of the first people who led America into the cosmos and also stating that his legacy will always go to be intact and his contributions are always going to be one of the reasons that NASA is capable of discovering the horizons.
NASA selected him as an astronaut in the year 1963. he had a 3-day mission when he first went out to explore the outer world and the name of the mission was GEMINI 10 which was launched in the year 1966 and that was the time when he became the third person to ever conduct a spacewalk.
He retired from NASA in 1970 and left NASA being the Director of the National Air and Space Museum and also as the undersecretary of the Smithsonian Institution.
