On 17 August 2021, Kate joined the helm of the ITV news program along with co-presenter Charlotte Hawkins. After discussing the latest headlines related to the coronavirus along with Dr Hilary Jones, Charlotte directly went to Kate and asked her how well she is aware of the effects the virus can have on an individual and their family.
As per the sources, Kate’s beloved husband Derek has spent over a year in the hospital following the contract of the virus in March 2020. Earlier, Derek was placed into an induced coma for a short time after being hospitalized after contracting the virus. This year in April, Derek got permission to go to the home, after which he directed went to his north London family home where he is under 24/7 care.
Some time ago, Kate put forth an intimate documentary titled Finding Dere in which she mentioned that how the pandemic devastated her family. She has also shown Derek’s initial condition in the hospital. Charlotte also announced on GMB (Good Morning Britain) that Kate’s documentary has been selected for the National Television Award. Charlotte stated, “We must mention, you have obviously got the first-hand experience of dealing with the aftermath of coronavirus and what that can mean for someone, with Derek and the family.”
Ahead, Kate has also revealed her hopes for Derek regarding the National Award. She said that it will be wonderful if Derek will also attend the ceremony and will see her receiving the award. She added, “I was just thinking, I was just looking… the ceremony is the 9th of September it says there, and wouldn’t it be wonderful if Derek was well enough to come.” We hope that Derek will recover soon properly and will be able to work like before.
