After a long 21 Years, the convicted who murdered Jessica Lall is free. Yes! Model Jessica was shot dead in a Delhi bar by Siddharth Vashisht aka Manu Sharma and he was convicted for her murder in December 2006. After that, the court sent him for life imprisonment but now he will be a free man. As per the reports the Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal allowed his release after the recommendation of the SRB.
At the time of the murder, the case went viral and it was highlighted all around the country. We have seen so many things since then and now LG of Delhi has released Manu Sharma after reviewing the recommendation of the Sentence Review Board. As per the reports he was convicted in 1999 for Jessica Lal murder case. You must know that the case wasn’t just any normal because a lot of controversies went viral after the murder.
You all should know that the Delhi government’s SRB had recommended his premature release which includes Delhi Home Minister, DG Tihar (Prisons) Principal Secretary (Home), Principal Secretary (Law), Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime), the government’s chief probation officer and a district judge. We were expecting something like this for a very long time because the case of Manu Sharma was opened a lot of times before but got rejected.
For a few years, his review was getting rejected. You must know that the 43-year-old is currently out on parole because of the COVID-19 the Delhi Government took the indicative to decongest jails. If we talk about the rules then we can say that it is applicable for remission is a consideration only after a life convict has completed 14 years in jail. In this case, Manu was behind the bars for more than 21 Years so yeah it worked for him.
Some of you might don’t know but 34-year-old Jessica Lall was shot dead in a bar in the national capital on April 30, 1999, by Sharma and his friends. Also, the murderer Sharma is the son of a former Congress MP and Union Minister Venod Sharma. Even in the recent events, Jessica’s sister Sabrina Lall confirmed that she has no problem or objection over Sharma being released from jail.
