Ilanga Mall Robbery: Former Cop Among Four Arrested For Robbery: The robbery cases are constantly increasing in South Africa. One after another many crimes are reported and even police are taking strict action against it. But imagine if a former cop himself involves in a robbery then whom we can trust? Shocking right, but as per the reports a former cop has been apprehended for robbing Mbombela mall. As per the reports, authorities in Mpumalanga have apprehended 4 suspects between 30 and 39 years in link with a robbery at a shop in Ilanga Mall which is Nelspruit. Mohlala stated that “Among the arrested suspects is a former police sergeant who previously served at the crime intelligence office in the province of Mpumalanga. As per the report, at around 08:00 AM on Monday, 7th February 2022, a group of armed suspects stormed into the shop where they kept the employees captive, tied them with cable ties prior to robbing them of cell phones, laptops as well as cash and boxes of the computer.”
He further added, “In the meantime, one of the workers at the shop was luckily inside the bathroom at the time of the occurrence of the robbery and this employee somehow managed to call for help. The security officers at the mall responded swiftly and cornered the suspects a few moments later as they attempted to run away from the in crime scene using a white Toyota Corolla Quest sans number plates nor license disc.”
The South African Police Service at Nelspruit was reported of the robbery and officers rushed to the scene. Mohlala stated that “When they were apprehended, the suspects were discovered in possession of property suspected to have been stolen at the time of the robbery, including 2 laptops, cash, and computer monitors. 2 firearms with projectile were also charged from the suspects.”
Mohlala adds that the arrested suspects are facing multiple charges. “The 4 suspects are facing charges of business robbery, unlawful possession of ammunition and firearms, possession of the suspected stolen property as well as contravention of traffic laws, after driving the stated vehicle sans number plates, license disk and sans the valid license of the driver.”
Mohlala stated that the apprehended robbers are expected to come up in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court soon.
