How did Alao-Akala die?
A source close to the former governor told PREMIUM TIMES that Mr. Alao-Akala, who had been fighting a terminal ailment, passed away on Wednesday in his room in Ogbomoso, his country house. The source stated that “It is true that Oga is demised. He passed away in the early hours of Wednesday in his room in Ogbomoso. He was full of life last night. In fact, I heard he was playing with his kids prior to he went to bed. We are in a grief mood now.”
Who was Alao-Akala?
Mr. Alao-Akala, an ex-police officer, was the governor of Oyo State between the years 2007 and 2011. Prior to becoming governor, he was deputy to a former governor, Rashidi Ladoja, between the years 2003 and 2006, prior to Mr. Ladoja being controversially impeached which as a consequence made him (Alao-Akala) the acting governor for 11 months.
Alao Akala was born on 3rd June 1950, at Ogbomoso in the Ogbomoso North Local Government Area of Oyo State, Alao-Akala had his elementary school at Osupa Baptist Day School, Ogbomoso prior to proceeding to Kamina Barracks Middle School, 5th Battalion of Infantry in Tamale, Ghana.
Alao-Akala Death Cause
This is the 3rd known demise of a prominent Ogbomosho native in a month. On 12th December 2021, Oba Oladunni Oyewumi, the Soun of Ogbomoso, passed on. On the 8th of January, 2022, Prof Taibat Danmole, his daughter who was a lecturer at the Lagos State University (LASU), also passed away.
Mr. Alao-Akala was until his demise a member of the All Progressive Congress (APC). He however Oyo State on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party. He was also the governorship candidate of the Action Democratic Party in the state at the time of the 2019 general election.
