He has won 44,000 Euros as the first prize in the 18th Frederic Chopin international piano competition which is known for launching the careers of pianists who participate from all over the world in the competition. The announcement has come just hours after Liu who played as the last entrant.
He was among the 12 finalists, he performed Chopin’s Concerto in E minor, opus 11 with the whole orchestra at the packed National Philharmonic in Warsaw, his performance was met with huge applause. he graduated with great distinction from the Conservatoire de Montréal, where he studied from Rich Raymond and he later studied at Université de Montréal as he was working with Dang Thai Son.
The runner-up was presented with 30,000 Euros which has been given to Alexander Gadjiev, he was representing Italy and Solvenia and to Kyohei Sorita of Japan, the person with the third prize received 20,000 Euros which was awarded to Martin Garcia Garcia of Spain.
The vent is held every five years, the competition got postponed from the year 2020 because of the pandemic, it was stated by the Jury that the pianist not only needs to be excellent in the craft but they also need to be sensitive and a breath of fresh air in order to stand out.
The jury further stated, music is a message from a person and the musician should know what kind of person Chopin was, bowing to the artistry, the jury which contained 17 members has allowed two more finalists for this year’s competition, it was noted by observers, the level of the competition was pretty high for this year and it was difficult for them to pick a winner.
It seems like the competition is pretty prestigious, the reason that the competition is held every five years is because of the level of the competition, pianists come to prepare from all over the world focusing for five years for the competition which raises the stakes and importance of the competition.
