A former South Korean singer, Seungri is hitting the headlines after getting jailed by the military court. The singer is one of the most popular and established personalities in South Korea. He has gained huge popularity for being one of the three youngest and vocalists members of the famous Korean boy band named Big Bang. The singer has a massive fan following on social media. On Thursday, the singer received jail for three years by the military court on multiple charges such as arranging prostitution and gambling. The charges were mentioned by the military prosecutors as “sex bribery”. They also asked the judge to sentence five years in jail along with a 20 million won fine as well. As we all know that Prostitution is illegal in South Korea. After being charged by prosecutors, the singer left the band Big Bang over 2 years ago. He was a part of the most famous and well-known band that was known as the king of South Korea’s K-pop scene.
One of the accusations is that he had offered sex services so that he can secure his funds for his restaurant business. The reason that the judges of the military court have heard the case is that the former singer was serving in the military for his required national service when the charges were put on him. Judge Hwang Min-Je stated, “It is hard to see the defendant was not aware of financial payments paid to the women for sex.”
Seungri was also accused of gambling. As per the sources, he runs an adult entertainment venue without any license and abstraction. Apart from being a singer, he is also a record producer, DJ, actor, investor, businessman, songwriter, creative director. In 2008, his band released the studio album titled ‘Remember’ in which Seungri released her single called Strong Baby for which he came out as a strong artist.
