On Friday, Senior Journalist, C.R. Shamsi died of cardiac arrest. He was 72 at that time. As per the information, his funeral ceremony will be held on Saturday. He was survived by a widow along with his four sons and a daughter. Many people who are known to him are paying soulful tributes on social media. Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Farrukh Habib expressed condolence to his death. He said that Shamsi was a seasoned journalist and always raised his voice for the rights and welfare of the journalist community at every appropriate forum.
C.R. Shamsi had worked for several national dailies at different posts from reporter to editor. He was from Chakwal and had begun his journalist career in 1975 from Rawalpindi. He worked as a journalist till his death in 2021. He was an active trade unionist and served in many positions in the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ). He also worked as a PFUJ general secretary. He was active for the freedom of the press and for the rights of journalists throughout his career.
Shamsi had also performed an active role in the execution of wage board awards for the employees of newspapers. One of his long-time colleagues in media organizations and in unions, Fouzia Shahid stated that Shamsi’s death has come out as a big loss for the whole journalist community. She added that he always took a stand for the rights of workers and was a voice of journalists. She said, “Even in the recent dharna against the proposed Pakistan Media Development Authority, he spent the whole night in front of Parliament House.” She said that the journalist communist has lost a vocal trade unionist. Shamsi left the world on 17 September 2021. We hope that his family will receive strength from God. May his soul Rest In Peace.
