Her birth name is Betty Marion White Ludden. She was born in Oak Park, Illinois. In 1923, her family shifted to Alhambra, California, and later, they went to Los Angeles over the course of the Great Depression. Her father built crystal radios so that he can make extra money for his family, later he sold them. She went to Beverly Hills Unified School District in Beverly Hills.
